Leadership Tips for Introverts: It Takes Courage to Lead

Sir Winston Churchill provided leadership to the British during the second world war. He said,

“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.”

The late prime minister was referring to the need for balance: sitting down and listening is as important as standing up and speaking. But sometimes our extroverted society has favored speaking over listening.

Introverts who are more comfortable listening, are fully capable of providing leadership but as a necessary first step they must find the courage to “stand up and speak”.

Until I joined http://www.toastmasters.org 13 years ago I too lacked the courage to speak up. As an introvert I hated being the center of attention. Now I enjoy public speaking thanks to the Toastmasters proven formula.
